Making friends

If there is one thing I’ve noticed, it’s that engaged girls really like talking to other engaged girls. Really, who else wants to hear that dribble? I bore myself sometimes.
On a recent Sunday I was in a Barnes and Noble with my fiance, and I decided to stroll into the “weddings” section. It is a wall of wedding planners, ettiquette books, flower guides and unique ceremony ideas. I admit, I’ve been sucked in a few times, and even purchased one of the handy planners.
On this day, I turned the cornor, and nearly had a collision with a girl who was teetering under the weight of about 7 of these thick textbooks.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I’m in your way,” the girl apologized, straightening her stack of coveted information.
“Oh, don’t worry, I’ve already been through here,” I said, adding, “I just got engaged.”
“Really??” the girl squealed. “Me TOO! CONGRATULATIONS!! Can I see your ring?”
I held out my princess cut stone, which I am usually quite proud of.
She, in turn, lifts her heavy left hand to reveal a bright round rock that would make J Lo blush.
I pulled out my sunglasses.
“Wow,” I said. “You win.”
“Oh,” she laughed. “No! Yours is ... nice.” Thanks. I like to think so.
“So when did you get engaged?” the girl asked, kindly changing the subject.
“In March,” I said. “You?”
“Thursday!” she said. She squealed again.
Yikes. Three days and the girl is already knee-deep in planning guides. Watch out dude, you’re dealing with a girl who’s been planning her wedding since kindergarten.
